Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Competitors are granted the ability to question specific decisions from the official, mirroring the protocol already in operation at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
This innovation is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This move arrives only a season following the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to review other situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.
Case in Point
An illustrative example occurred in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire watched a replay and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another change at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was out or in.
In other news, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
